Sniped Card Game
ART DIRECTION, DESIGN, PACKAGING, PHOTOGRAPHY
Sniped began as an impromtu card game made up amongst some friends on a trip to the Penny Arcade Expo (PAX) in Boston. Hanging out in the hotel lobby and growing a bit tired of all the other games we had been playing for hours, we decided to make something up on the spot. It ended up bringing us so much fun and laughter that when we were beginning to plan our trip back to PAX the follow year, we said to ourselves "Wouldn't it be funny if we turned Sniped into an actual game to bring with us next time?" and so it began.
I collaborated with my friend John (Lee Card Games), who was in on the original games of Sniped and had prior experience with creating indie card games, to transform our ideas into a tangible game for ourselves and friends.
We created a logo, color palette, rule set, icons, and an overall aesthetic direction for our game and got to work setting up the art in the card manufacturer's templates. This also inlcuded designing box art that would compliment the card designs. Once the initial batch of decks came in, I tore open a pack to set up in my lightbox for some product shots. Being able to see a project through from inception to completion in-house, including product shots and retouching, was a rewarding experience.
Post delivery, my absolute favorite part of this project has been seeing our friends laugh and enjoy the game that we had all made up together from what was initially just a normal deck of playing cards. We have had the chance to play with our custom designed version at parties, more hotel lobbies, and even at PAX– where the idea was first conceptualized.
